Slovenian brand Alpina has finally taken the wraps off of their latest and greatest classic race boot: The Alpina ECL 2.0. The ECL 2.0 is the classic counterpart to the ESK 2.0. This means that it has a full length one piece carbon sole and heel counter. It also features a similar sole, which looks almost identical to the Super Skate Sole on the ESK 2.0. The new boot is remarkably light, when you put it on it feels as if it is almost not there. The low profile carbon heel counter contributes towards this. The heel counter on this boot is significantly lower than in many traditional classic boots. This allows for an even more minimal fit than previous Alpina boots. This lower heel counter remarkably doesn’t result in a less stable boot, the one piece carbon sole is pliable yet confidence inspiring all at the same time. Hopefully this spring I will have a chance to ski in this boot, at the moment they are very scarce in North America. (I only got to try on one)
